My name is Jordan Lopez, I am a 3rd year Business Admin. major and am planning on going to Dental School after I graduate. I am good at public speaking. If I were to start my business idea, I would like to oversee it as I continue with my education. My product is an app that allows college students to get advising info without having to go to the adviser. This includes functions like planning out future semesters, checking degree audits, and viewing class catalogs. This allows students to avoid going and waiting in lengthy lines to get simple questions answered. The demographic for this product is college students, plain and simple. From freshman to senior, this app is useful to all of them. College students are busy, and advisers can have limited hours and long lines to see them. With that in mind, being able to pay 99 cents to download an app to have their questions answered and more would be a very attractive deal. What sets me apart from others with regard to bringing this idea to life is my skill at thinking through prospective demographics, public speaking skill, and knowledge of the app market. I believe I have a detailed and thorough understanding of the app market that few others have through my extensive research on the subject.
I think my elements all fit together very well, my demographic is very on-point and I believe my idea to be sound. The only real weakness I feel in my business plan is that developing and running an app is not totally congruous with my plan to go to Dental School.
Hey Jordan,
ReplyDeleteYour idea is honestly really good, and I didn't think of that at all which makes it pretty original as well. Most of our generation owns a smart phone so having an app for advising would definitely make it easier for students to plan their future. With most apps being free, I don't know if making them pay would work and attract customers. Instead, I would try to work with the school and see if they would be willing to pay you money for providing that service.

I love this idea, Jordan. It is funny because I tried getting ahold of my advisor the other day and I had to try a couple of times before I finally did. They’re usually quite busy (I imagine). Not only would this app benefit advisers from having to answer simple questions, but it will also benefit the student and save them time.

Hi Jordan,
ReplyDeleteI think your business idea is great! I think it is original and unique! As a sophomore, I would definitely use this app. I don't like going anywhere near the advising office especially during drop/add week. I think students of a classes would use your app. I do have a couple questions. Do you think charging students is the best idea? The most prominent apps soar because they are free and make their money off of adds.Keep up the good work! I think if you decided to go with this idea then you should really make it unique because students can already do everything you listed on ISIS. That being said, it is quite annoying to access a full website on a phone when you are in a hurry, especially ours here at UF. Also, just an idea for you to play around with, but many people really don’t like paying for apps. I was thinking that you could make the app and sell usage to the schools themselves and then the students wouldn’t have to pay for it. Good idea.
